“We paid the visit to the Prime Minister to call on His Excellency to remind the Republic that Cameroon has not yet ratified the protocol establishing the court, although it ratified the African Charter on Human and People’s Rights a long time ago,” the Court President told reporters after the discussions with the Prime Minister. She further said that they drew government’s attention to make the declaration allowing individuals and NGOs direct access to court after the country must have ratified the protocol.

Akuffo said during discussions with the Head of Government, they did not gather any information on impediments of Cameroon ratifying the protocol. “We were assured that the administrative processes to bring about the ratification were in place,” she disclosed. Appraising the human rights situation in the country, she said, Cameroon ranked pretty well justified by the prevailing peace.
