Nyansako Ni-Nku in a jovial mood with some dignitries

Moderator Emeritus of the Presbyterian Church in Cameroon, PCC, Rt. Rev. Nyansako-ni-Nku has cautioned traditional chiefs to hands off political activities. Nyansako was speaking on April 7, at the palace of the Bafaw Paramount Ruler, Nfon Victor E. Mukete, during a reception given him by the Nfon. He said formerly, chiefs and fons used to be autonomous, with a House of Chiefs as in the then West Cameroon. The Moderator Emeritus regretted that today’s chiefs have stretched their hands for little money from the administration which has affected their independence.

“I pray that this prostitution to which traditional rulers have exposed themselves to should be brought to a halt,” he said. Nyansako said he is ready to accept more invitations from chiefs because anyone not connected to his culture and roots is completely lost. He then thanked Nfon Mukete for the honour accorded him, to officially receive his family. He also promised to stand by the Moderator of the PCC, Festus Asana, for his tenure to be successful and for the church to move forward.

Meanwhile, Nyansako urged Christians not to spend time in smear campaigns that would destroy the image of the church but to be more prayerful. It should be noted that the Moderator Emeritus’ advice is coming on the heels of the national union for chiefs that went operational recently. Most people believe that the chiefs and fons coming under a national banner could easily be manipulated by the administration for selfish gains, especially with the upcoming 2011 Presidential Elections.

While welcoming Nyansako, Nfon Mukete lauded him for his services to humanity. He said as President of the World Alliance of Churches, Nyansako has done much for the church and the world at large. “We of Kumba are not only proud, but grateful you chose this town for your retirement home. As a role model, I hope your time, lofty ideas and humanitarian works shall help Kumba,” Chief Mukete said. Also present at the ceremony was the Government Delegate to the Kumba City Council, Victor Nkele Ngoh and former Governor, Enoh Tanjong, amongst others.
