Milla reconciles with FECAFOOT President Mohammed Iya after a brief row…

Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT) president Iya Mohammed and honorary president of the same body Roger Milla, reconciled on Monday in Yaounde after months of misunderstanding. The two men had not been in good terms since the Milla-Samuel Eto’o controversy prior the 2010 World Cup.

Following a reconciliation action initiated and led by the country’s Sports Minister Michel Zoah, the former striker finally agreed to bury the hatchet.

During a ceremony at the sports palace in Yaounde on Monday, Milla and Iya were all smiles and shook hands with each other in front of TV cameras to mark the end of their differences and the beginning of a happy football family in the Central African nation, according to Le Messager.

Weeks before the 2010 World Cup, Milla’s interview with a local newspaper sparked controversy within FECAFOOT, prompting the body and its president’s dissociation from the 1990 World Cup hero’s declaration that Samuel Eto’o performed better for his club side than for the national team – a statement the Inter striker didn’t take kindly to. He had threatened to boycott the national team.

Milla had quit FECAFOOT’s executive committee when he failed to obtain an apology from president Iya.

Later on Tuesday, Milla and Eto’o held a joint press conference in Yaoundé to express their willingness to move from the past into a harmonious future for the good of Cameroon’s football. Eto’o called Milla the god of Cameroon’s football while Milla affectionately declared that Eto’o had always been his son.
