The Cameroon squad possess enough quality and strengh to progress to the knockout stages in South Africa. They also have the experience, as this is the sixth time the Indomitable Lions have qualified for the World Cup – an African record.

They almost didn’t make it this time though, edging out Gabon for the final qualifying spot in the final game. French boss Paul Le Guen took over from Otto Pfister when they were bottom of their group after two games, and was able to revitalize their faltering campaign.

Ranked eleventh in the world, Cameroon are grouped with Holland, Denmark and Japan in Group E. They have a number of faces familiar to Premier League fans, with Spurs defensive duo Sebastian Bassong and Bennoit Assou Ekotto both named in the  preliminary squad.

Arsenal’s Alexandre Song will provide strength and guile in midfield after a stand out season for the Gunners. Jean Makoun is worth keeping tabs on after an excellent season in Lyon’s midfield, helping the French side progress to the Champions League semi-finals.

Veteran duo Rigobert Song, once of Liverpool, and ex-Chelsea midfielder Geremi are also included.

The star man is of course Inter Milan striker Samuel Eto’o, and he will be on the prowl for goals up front. His sheer presence and power will have opposition defenders running scared. The Indomitable Lions will be hoping to roar into action in their first game against Japan, and they should possess enough fight, speed and power to claw they’re way out of Group E. After that, who’s to bet against them making further progress in the tournament.
