Tottenham Defender Sebastien Bassong Apologises For Mistake In Young Boys Champions League Qualifier Defeat
Cameroon international sorry for mixed display…
Tottenham defender Sebastien Bassong has apologised for his crucial mistake in the Champions League qualifier defeat to Young Boys.
The Cameroon international endured a rollercoaster evening as Spurs fell to a 3-2 away defeat to the Swiss side in the first leg tie. After being caught out by Moreno Costanzo‘s pass in the build-up to Bern’s third goal, he then launched Spurs’ comeback with a header from a corner.
Speaking to the Spurs’ website, the centre-back declared he had been eager to correct his error and keep the dream of progression to the group stage alive.
“I was really sad to make that mistake and I apologise for that because it was childish and a lack of concentration from myself,” Bassong said.
“My goal felt like a bit of revenge and I really wanted that, so I was happy.
“After the mistake I made, I really wanted to improve in the game so I think this goal came at the right moment because it got us back into it and we started playing our proper game.
“We started to take control and play our football. That’s what people expected of us. But the first 30 minutes was the worst we’ve had in a long time.
“After scoring two away goals we feel a lot better than the nightmare we had at the start of the game.
“If we carry on like this, we have a good chance to go through but we will have to work hard because this team is not going to be easy to beat, even at home.”
