Cameroon began their first training season in Metz, France on Monday in view of the upcoming round of the 2013 African Cup of Nations and 2014 World Cup qualifiers.

Of the 26 players expected, around 10 had made it to Metz on the first morning in camp.

They are, the squad’s vice-captain Eyong Enoh, Carlos Kameni, Dany Nounkeu, Joel Matip, Henri Tsama, Allan Nyom, Ghomsi Antonio, Leornard Kwekeu, Sally Edgar and Willie Overtoom, who makes his debut in the lion’s den.

Arsenal midfielder Alexandre Song and Valacienne striker Vincent Aboubakar joined the squad later in the evening. The other players are expected to join the team progressively.

Nonobstant le  fait que le club allemand ait dominé pratiquement toute la rencontre, il jouissait d’un autre avantage non moins considérable,  il jouait sur son sol. Les anglais avaient quant à eux, réussi à repousser l’assault de la machine germanique, illustrationfaite par le gardien Petr Cech.

Cette finale a eu ses moments de joies et de frayeurs. Ce fut d’abord le but d’égalisation de Drogba à la 88eme minute du temps réglémentaire, puis ce moment fatidigue dans les prolongations où l’attaquant de pointe anglais, encore lui, a fait une faute sur Ribery dans la surface de vérité. Penalty! dit l’arbitre.

Roben le meilleur joueur du Bayern jusqu’à ce moment là, a tiré sur la gauche de Cech, le gardien de Chelsea. Ce dernier s’est étendu et a stoppé le ballon en deux temps.

Cet épisode a redonner du souffle aux anglais qui sont revenus dans la rencontre jusqu’à l’ultime minute des prolongations.

Enfin, ce fut ce moment redouté par tous les meilleurs de la planète, les tirs au but. Les allemands ayant manqué deux de leurs tirs et les anglais un, il revenait au meilleur avant-centre Ivoirien de Chelsea la tâche difficile de relever l’ultime défi. Il le fit de très belle manière, donnant à Chelsea pour la première fois de son histoire une coupe d’Europe. Un bravo Didier Drogba, qui à notre avis fut le MVP de la rencontre.

The 1990 World Cup star set up a group last month calling for the axing of the executive committee of the Cameroonian Federation (Fecafoot).

Milla has criticised Fecafoot for the Indomitable Lions‘ dwindling fortunes and lengthy ban for Samuel Eto’o.

“I’ve been waiting for this for a very long time now,” said Milla, 59.

The decision to sack Milla was made at Wednesday’s general assembly meeting of Fecafoot in Yaounde, where support was expressed for long-serving president Mohamed Iya.

Milla, who was accused of “injurious utterances against Fecafoot, its president and management staff”, has often clashed with Cameroon’s football authorities, accusing them of hindering progress.

Undeterred by Wednesday’s decision, he has pledged to continue his campaign to remove the Fecafoot leadership.

“I’ve got to tell you that we’re continuing our fight to get the present management of Fecafoot out of office,” Milla told Associated Press.

“This decision by Fecafoot doesn’t hurt me in the least. I was not an employee of Fecafoot. I was simply providing a helping hand to them to see that our country’s football gets sanity.”

The 1987 African Footballer of the Year‘s criticism of Fecafoot came to the fore after Eto’o was banned for 15 matches for his role in last year’s players’ strike over unpaid bonuses.

Milla and the players’ union said the suspension was excessive and Fecafoot later reduced Eto’o's ban to eight months – effectively four games.

The four-time African Footballer of the Year, who currently plays in Russia, will miss the World Cup qualifiers against Congo and Libya on 2 June and 10 June respectively.

The following weekend, the Indomitable Lions must once again do without their biggest star of recent times, as they host Guinea-Bissau in a 2013 Africa Cup of Nations tie.

Denis Lavagne’s side lead 1-0 from the first leg in February, as they try to return to a competition they missed out on earlier this year.

The Indomitable Lions’ absence from the 2012 Nations Cup was particularly disappointing for their fans, with Cameroon bordering both the countries that co-hosted the finals – Equatorial Guinea and Gabon.

Cameroon have participated at five of the last six World Cups but have won just one of their last twelve games at the tournament, when beating Saudi Arabia 1-0 at the 2002 finals in Japan and South Korea.

The Indomitable Lions were ranked as Fifa’s 66th best team in February this year – their lowest rating since the world governing body began its classification in 1993.

Milla shot to prominence at the 1990 World Cup when his four goals propelled Cameroon to the quarter-finals, before extending his record as the World Cup’s oldest scorer in 1994, netting against Russia aged 42.

Après avoir débattu de tous les points conformément aux textes de la FECAFOOT, l’Assemblée Générale a adopté à l’unanimité les résolutions suivantes :
1ère résolution : En application de l’article 16 des statuts de la FECAFOOT, l’Association des Footballeurs du Cameroun (AFC) est exclue de la FECAFOOT pour violations graves et répétées de ses obligations prévues à l’article 15 alinéa 1 des statuts de la FECAFOOT ;
2ème résolution : En application de l’article 45 des statuts de la FECAFOOT, Monsieur MAYEBI David est révoqué de toute activité au sein de la FECAFOOT avec effet immédiat pour insubordination caractérisée et propos injurieux à l’encontre de la FECAFOOT, de son président et de ses dirigeants ;
3ème résolution : En application de l’article 90 des statuts de la FECAFOOT, messieurs EMEDEC Charles, TSEMO Serge et KAMWA Roger sont révoqués de toute activité au sein de la FECAFOOT avec effet immédiat pour malversations financières dans le cadre de l’acquisition de l’immeuble siège de la la Ligue régionale de football de l’Ouest ;
4ème résolution : En application de l’article 45 des statuts de la FECAFOOT, Monsieur Albert Roger MILLER est révoqué de sa qualité de Président d’honneur de la FECAFOOT pour propos injurieux à l’encontre de la FECAFOOT, de son président et de ses dirigeants ainsi que pour avoir appelé publiquement à des manifestations populaires et à l’insurrection contre la Fédération ;
5ème résolution : Le procès verbal de l’Assemblé Générale du 28 mai 2011 est adopté.
6ème résolution : Le rapport d’activités du Président de la FECAFOOT pour la période allant du 28 mai 2011 au 16 mai 2012 est approuvé.
7ème résolution : Le rapport de l’auditeur indépendant sur les comptes de l’exercice 2011 est approuvé.
8ème résolution : Quitus est donné au Comité Exécutif pour sa gestion des comptes de l’exercice 2011.
9ème résolution : Le budget de l’exercice 2012 est équilibré en recettes et en dépenses à la somme de 2 698 316 400 (deux milliards six cents quatre vingt dix huit millions trois cents seize mille quatre cents) francs CFA est adopté.
10ème résolution : Les modifications de certaines dispositions des Statuts de la FECAFOOT sont adoptées ;
11ème résolution : Les modifications de certaines dispositions des Règlements Généraux de la FECAFOOT sont adoptées ;
12ème résolution : Les modifications de certaines dispositions du Code Disciplinaire de la FECAFOOT sont adoptées

Nicolas Nkoulou, vice-capitaine de l’équipe nationale du Cameroun est retenu pour sa première saison au poste de défenseur central retenu dans le onze meilleur de la ligue1. Malgré une saison ratée sur le plan collectif, le camerounais bénéficie de la reconnaissance de ses pairs pour ses performances individuelles au cours de la saison qui s’achève dimanche prochain (30/37 matches). Son compatriote, Bedimo, arrivé en début de saison à Montpellier a pleinement donné satisfaction. Titulaire à son poste d’arrière gauche, l’ancien lensois est le joueur plus utilisé cette saison par Réné Girard (36/37  matches joués).

The runners up were University of Yaoundé II with 45 medals; 12 gold, 10 silver and 23 bronze. At the third position was the University of Dschang with 31 medals; 10 in gold, 6 silver and 15 bronze. The University of Douala came at the fourth position with 27 medals; 9 in gold after grabbing the 9th gold medal from the football final, beating the University of Buea football team 3 goals to 2 after post match penalties. At the close of 90 minutes it was no goal each way. Their silver count was 7 and 11 for bronze.

The host, University of Buea, UB, finished the varsity games at the 8th position with 17 medals; 3 in gold, 5 silver and 9 bronze. This is the best performance for UB in fifteen years of the Cameroon University Games.

According to Dr. Daniel Ngoa Ngele, Director of INJS, they came to take part in the games and to do their best. “Everybody came to win something and congratulations to those who have done so. This is the fourth time we are shooting to the spotlight, thanks to our preparations. We are not special in our style but consistent in the way we do things,” he said.

Ngoa Ngele said many years ago, it was the University of Yaoundé I calling the shots, now it is the turn of INJS. “Tomorrow, it may be the turn of another university or private higher institution. Everybody has a plan to win, so we must continue to strategise in our preparations,” he added.

He found in the organisation little hitches but will add that it is part of every human endeavour. “There is no perfect organisation. The authorities of UB and the National Federation of University Sports, FENASU, put up their best. I say congratulations to them and hope it will be better next time,” he said.

Still from the INJS delegation, came the best female individual athlete FENASU 2012 in Buea, Appes Ekanga. She distinguished herself, bagging home 4 gold medals in the 100m, 200m, 4x100m and 4x400m races. Liliane Nguetsa of the University Institute of the Golf of Guinea, IUGG, had 3 gold medals in the 800m, 1500m and 5000m races.

In the best male individual athlete for FENASU 2012 in Buea, Alex Landry Mamba of the University of Yaoundé II took home 2 gold medals in Long Jump and Triple Jump. Mohamadou Adamou of IUGG also had 2 gold medals. He broke the varsity games records of the 10,000m, scoring 1387 points, following the IAAF rules. He was the gold medallist for 5000m.

The UB football team produced the best player of the games, Hilton Fube, despite losing his penalty during the shoot outs. The fair play trophy went to the University of Yaoundé II, while the best fans club for the state university was the National Advanced School of Public Works, Yaoundé and the best fans club for the other higher institutions that took part was the National School of Post and Telecommunications, coming in for the first time.

While closing the curtains for the games in Buea, Prof. Jacques Fame Ndongo said he enjoyed the plethora of activities like any other participant in the land of Legendary Hospitality – Buea.

According to Fame Ndongo, it was not only a time to savour the taste of victories and defeats; it was another opportunity to foster the spirit of national unity, team work and tolerance in an atmosphere of happiness. “The spirit of competitions prevailed,” he said.

He congratulated INJS for their victories, noting that FENASU and the ministry of higher education were proud to have them in the family. “You deserve a big applause, while we also welcome the National School of Post and Telecommunications, Yaoundé.”

Fame Ndongo denounced the acts of irresponsibility demonstrated at the opening ceremony, while calling on the UB management to ensure that serenity, team work and peace reign on campus. The Higher Education boss announced that University of Ngaoundere will host the 2013 Varsity Games.

In solidarity with the athletes and the Ministry of Higher Education, Cyprian Fondufe Wongibe, Inspector General in the Ministry of Sports and Physical Education mentioned that his ministry will support the best 75 athletes at FENASU 2012 Buea with FCFA 50,000 each as they pursue their educational and sporting career.

REACTIONS

We prepared the games with a lot of difficulties, but we have closed it in style and attained our objective – grabbing the gold medal in football. We made the difference against the UB football team in our attitude towards the game. We did not panic or feel intimidated in front of the UB home crowd.

The university games have come and gone. We the staff of UB are proud to have had the third opportunity to host the games. We started on a timid note but we quickly found our feet and progressed to a successful end. The difficulties encountered are just natural, but the incident noticed at the opening ceremony cannot be linked to UB students and our athletes. Not even for money! Our athletes came out like the rest of the 18 participating institutions to win medals for UB, put their individual and collective names on the spotlight.

The purported UBSU Pressure Group are not athletes. They could not have been presenting a course that does not exist. Our athletes knew where to channel their problems if any arose. Before the football final and like any other disciplines we presented at the games, our sports department met them and we shared views on how they are performing. Where there were hitches, we collegiately sought for solutions.

My institution did not perform well. We’re happy that we participated. We made an impact in our football matches. We’re a young institution as concerns the games but in the future we will do better. We have learnt some few things.

We are leaving the games with a lot of satisfaction. We are taking home lessons, make corrections were we erred and improve on our strong points. In 2011, our maiden participation, we had a medal. 2012, we’ve three medals. Next year we will emphasise on individual sporting disciplines. We have not hosted before, so, we appreciate UB for what they have done, though lapses could be noticed in some areas.

I’m pleased being in Buea for the games. It has been a spirited one week with the activities out here; camaraderie, fair play amongst the athletes and officials. We maintained our position for the sporting activities like last year and we promise to do better subsequently. For the fans club, we came first, amongst the state universities and other higher institutions in the country.

We prepared for everything; sporting disciplines and the fans club. We thank the organising committee, the higher education ministry, the government of Cameroon for their support to the youths despite minor hiccups one may see. When you assemble more four thousand people at a go, expect some difficulties.

The games were tough, but thanks to proper preparation, our university were able to reach their target. Our focus was to emerge amongst the first three and our participation was based on fair play. With regards to the general organisation, we praise U.B for hosting the games, although a few students almost ruined the feast.

Those who have not been in charge can criticise, but I will not. Each year is different and so are the challenges but so far, U.B has done its best. There are many ways to express grievances so students should not destroy the feast. University Games provide an avenue for everyone to relax, demonstrate sports excellence and fair play, not cheating. It must not happen again.

We are thankful to the Local Organising Committee for all the dispositions taken for our delegation to feel at home in Buea. Our performance has been satisfactory in the overall, especially in judo where we grabbed 10 medals, 5 in gold.

I am disappointed with athletics where Yaoundé 1 won only 1 gold, out of a possible 29. Our drop in performance can be attributed to the youthfulness of the team and we hope that they will improve in the future. My biggest worry was the late programming of matches in tennis, some of which went up to 2 a.m.

We performed very badly, winning just 2 silver and 6 bronze medals. Last year, we won 2 gold. However, our sojourn in Buea has been pleasurable except for the incident caused by the “pressure group” during the opening ceremony. We recommend that athletes be selected based on a certain level of competence to keep the standards high and to meet up with national and international expectations and challenges.
